More about Thao Anh
"My background is in construction and before I came to study in the UK I was working as an engineer in my home country. I decided that I wanted to expand my experiences and knowledge and started to explore my options for studying in Europe. At first I applied to several different universities but in the end the course structure and diverse range of modules that the MSc Construction Management course here at NTU carries made it an easy final decision.
"Masters programmes in the UK are only one-year long and are recognised worldwide, which was very appealing for me. Also, after exploring the options for studying at NTU with my education counsellor, I applied for an international student scholarship and was awarded one! My family were really proud and it has helped with managing my finances of my course.
"The course has been really interesting for me. The range of students I study with is very diverse and I enjoy that I can apply and share my knowledge with students from other countries outside of the UK. Also, the lecturers here are extremely supportive. You have access to them at any time and they are always happy to help with your work.
What are the highlights of your course?
"As part of my course I am looking forward to an industry work placement in Berlin. This is an opportunity for me to travel, work and study in the construction industry in wider Europe. I will be gaining real hands-on experience from a huge construction project – the Berlin Airport. I'm really excited about this and getting new knowledge and perspective of the industry.
"Compared to my home country, the education system here is easier and of a higher quality. All of the facilities are modern and convenient plus all the resources such as books and articles are available online or in the library, the system is modern and well-connected and all of this has helped my study so much.
How do you find living in Nottingham?
"As a city, Nottingham is an amazing place to live. I find it very peaceful here compared to my home city but at the same time it is very modern, vibrant and cosmopolitan. The city has everything you might need as an international student such as international grocery shops and restaurants, lots of bars and pubs as well as great shopping centres.
"I haven't had any problems in meeting new people and making friends. The Global Lounge is very good place for meeting international students. I am also doing some volunteer work in a local charity shop which has helped me to engage with the local people more and understanding the English culture."
