More about Aimee
What made you choose to study at NTU?
"I fell in love with NTU after visiting on an open day. I was blown away by the high quality of the work produced from the Art & Design degrees and it just felt like the right place to be."
What did you enjoy most about studying Fashion Accessory Design?
"I began my time at NTU studying Textile Design and transferred to Fashion Accessory Design in Year Two. I can honestly say the thing I loved most about the course was the creative journey. It was so rewarding to be part of the whole creative process from designing to manufacturing."
Has the course included any live projects?
"There are constantly new live projects being offered on the course and it honestly depends on how motivated you are to get involved. I won a placement with River Island in their Handbag and Footwear Design department in London during the first term of transferring to the course. This was the result of the quality of work I produced during the live industry project and the designs I created went on to be manufactured and sold for River Island's summer collection. To see my designs being sold in River Island's stores and online was incredibly rewarding."
What did you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
"I loved studying and living in Nottingham. It is a vibrant, compact, student friendly city with great nightlife, restaurants, cafés and shopping. It felt like home after the three years I spent living there."
Why would you recommend studying Fashion Accessory Design at NTU?
"I think Nottingham is a great city for students and I would recommend Nottingham to any future student. I would rate NTU's School of Art & Design highly due to the amazing staff and facilities it offers. NTU also has great alumni and graduate support including The Hive which offers support in setting up your own business."
Have you completed any work placements?
"Other than the River Island placement I mentioned, I also gained experience from my part-time job. While at University I worked for Ditsy Pets manufacturing luxury pet collars and leads, and through this I witnessed how small businesses are run.
"Last year I gained valuable work experience in Asia shadowing the owner of a handbag manufacturing company in Hong Kong. I also worked for an independent fashion retailer in Bali, Indonesia. Here, I organised visits to leather suppliers and was introduced to stunning exotic skins; stingray, lizard and snake. This developed a broader knowledge of the global trade of leather and skins and resulted in a passion for creating accessories with leather."
Where do you hope to be in five years' time?
"In five years' time I wish to be a sought after fashion accessory brand. Well known for my unique, sculptural, luxury handbags hand made from beautiful, exotic leather skins."
