More about Becky
What do you most enjoy about your course?
"I enjoy the fact that you can use any material, experimenting in Year One trying out different techniques and processes. In Year Two you get to hone your skills and learn not to be afraid of making a mistake, as failing helps you to develop. In Year Three you get to build up a body of work for the Degree Show. Decorative Arts can be conceptual but also commercial, it’s so diverse."
Can you tell us about an industry project you've worked on?
"In Year One we created bathroom tiles for Johnson Tiles. This was a live project and we had to present our work to the director of the company. There were three different prizes and our group came first!"
Tell us about any guest speakers who have visited the course?
"Guest speakers have included alumni from the course who have been successful in their designing and making. Recently this has included Anna Hunt who spoke about her practice and how she went from graduating from the course to exhibiting her work in New York and selling her work at craft fairs around the UK."
What do you think about the course staff?
"The course staff are very helpful and discuss your work in tutorials giving you feedback on development and further practice. The technical staff are always available and approachable, helping you to find the right technique or process for your work. We have inspiring lectures on different designers and artists, and learn about Decorative Arts in context. The administrative team are unique and advertise exhibitions, extra activities and opportunities such as work placements and competitions."
