More about Pamela

What do you enjoy most about Fashion Accessory Design at NTU?
"The course is so much more than I thought it would be. It encompasses lots of areas of design including textile, product and knitwear and I'm enjoying being able to explore the different areas it offers."

Can you tell us about a live project you've completed on the course?
"We took part in a brief by Oxfam, where we had to transform clothing that wouldn't sell into some fabulous accessories. I've never done upcycling before and I loved the process of making the old into something new. The most exciting thing was that we were put into groups with students from other design courses. This was a real eye opener and really interesting to work with people with different thought processes."

Have you had any guest lecturers visit your course?
"We are very privileged and have the most amazing speakers who come to talk to us. My favourite was Canadian accessories designer Kat Marks, who is now based in London. Her story was so inspiring and she gave us all time to look through our work. She gave very open guidance on how to relate to people within the industry and build up useful contacts."

How do you find the course staff?
"The course staff are amazing. Because our course is specialised we work in very small groups, which gives us more opportunities to have one-to-one time with our tutors and lecturers. I have been able to contact my tutor whenever I needed to speak to him, which is really important when you start university."

What do you think of the facilities available to you?
"Fashion Accessory Design students have their own studio that isn't shared with any other design courses, equipped with the latest equipment. We also have access to the other workshops and facilities within the School of Art & Design if we want to use them."

What do you like about studying and live in Nottingham?
"I lived in a small village for a very long time and Nottingham seemed like a big city to me, but it's the best place for a student. During term time there is always something happening, especially for design students, with exhibitions, art galleries and performances taking place."

Why would you recommend your course?
"If you are looking for a design course that will prepare you for a career in fashion, then this is the course to do. The accessories market is booming and will overtake the clothing marketing in the next few years. Already lots of jobs are being created for accessories designers."
