More about Jacob
What made you choose to study at NTU?
“Nottingham Trent University (NTU) was originally my second choice, but I’m so glad that I came here.”
What were the key features that attracted you to your course?
“The adaptability and application to the real world.”
What do you enjoy most about your course?
“I particularly enjoy the real-world applications, such as applying theory to contemporary news and producing films for projects. We cover so many aspects of media in so much detail - both theory and practical.”
Has the course included any live projects / industry competitions and if so can you talk a little bit about one you really enjoyed?
“I’m currently undertaking the Humanities at Work module; my placement involves producing a recruitment video for Nottinghamshire’s cadet force. I was a cadet, myself, in school so I am particularly keen to give something back to the organisation. It’s a solo project so I’m very excited to see how it will turn out.”
What do you think about the course staff – include lecturers, tutors, administrators and technical staff within this. How do they support your learning and University experience?
“The staff at university are incredible and they’re probably my favourite thing about NTU. They are very supportive and approachable and are always there to support you if you are in need of tuition or advice.”
What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
“Nottingham is very welcoming – it’s a city with a large student population so you're always bumping into people you know. I also really like the community feel of the Clifton Campus.”
Have you completed any work placements and if so can you tell me a little bit about them – where you went, what you did, and any skills you’ve gained that will help you when you graduate?
“Apart from my current project, I also spent two weeks in the marketing department of Stamford Endowed Schools. The experience was very useful, it gave me an insight into what I could do in the future.”
How will your course enhance your employability for your chosen career?
“We are currently doing a module called “Working with the Media” which is designed to increase our employability during and after university.”
What has been your greatest achievement at NTU so far?
“So far, remaining an active member of the water polo 1st team.”
What are your plans for the future?
“I want to compare the two work placements to find out what I want to do for the rest of my life.”
