International Exchange: Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand
"Studying abroad gave me the opportunity to put to use a lot of what I had been learning in the previous two years of my degree. I would say it was vital to my academic progression at NTU. It inspired me to write my dissertation on the effects of globalisation on Thai and migrant culture in Bangkok.
"Going on exchange also gave me the chance to interact with students from other cultures and backgrounds as well as the freedom to travel. During my time in Bangkok I visited places such as Ayuttaya, the old Thai capital; Chiang Mai; Pattaya; Krabi; and many of the islands. After the exchange was over I was lucky enough to volunteer for a month in a school in Ubon Ratchatani, in the east of Thailand. I also spent the summer travelling Cambodia and Vietnam.
"I currently teach English and Cultural Studies at an international college in Chengdu, China, to students who want to attend UK or US universities. My time abroad demonstrated to my current employers that I have the ability to communicate with people from different cultures as well as the experience of studying in another country. I couldn't recommend the International Exchange programme enough. You get a chance to live in another country, make many new friends, and the opportunity to experience another culture first-hand."
