I would strongly encourage other students to go on exchange. It has been a life changing experience for me!

More about Marcel

"I chose to study in Thailand out of interest; I wanted to know what it would feel like to live outside Europe, in an entirely different social and cultural context. I also recognised that the geographical location of Thailand would allow me to easily travel to other countries in South East Asia such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Singapore, which was a bonus!

"Luckily, the exchange university in Thailand, Thammasat University, offered a large variety of subjects that interested me. I was able to take not only very different but also very region specific classes such as Foreign Relations in East Asia and Thai Government and Politics, which I found fascinating.

"The way I studied in my host country differed from my previous experience of studying. At Thammasat University most of the lectures were about three hours long with some classes being held at weekends, which was quite intense. Nevertheless, every class I took was definitely worth going to; the subjects and in-class discussions were extremely interesting. The University offered a great variety of teaching styles from lectures held by professors, all the way to student led presentations.

"My accommodation in Bangkok was another highlight of my exchange, as I was able to stay on the 35th floor of a 40 storey high condominium with the view on the outskirts of Bangkok. It offered a postcard like view on the skyline of Bangkok which I can only describe as breath-taking!

"Living in a different country has benefitted me immensely. Travelling around with new friends in an entirely different culture has been thrilling as well as developmental. My exchange to Thailand has definitely changed my perspective on life. It was also nice to have a higher standard of living without spending a lot of money.

"I would strongly encourage other students to go on exchange. I've had such a great time getting to know another country, its culture and people and simply living a life different to the one back home. It has been a life changing experience for me!"
