More about Megan

"I heard about my course through UCAS and once I saw the prospectus I signed my name on the dotted line!

"What appealed to me immediately was the broad range of topics offered to study in the first year. I have always been in love with History, and by being able to study everything from the medieval to modern period, with heritage perspectives added in to boot, I became familiar with a wide variety of debates and arguments in the historical sphere. This proved really helpful in the second year when you get to be more selective and delve deeper into topics that really get you up in the morning!

"The library is a hugely important resource for anyone studying a History degree. The libraries at both the Clifton campus and the City site have a wealth of history books on a broad spectrum of subjects. I changed my dissertation topic after having a revelation about something that interested me more, and the dissertation module leader was really supportive of this and immediately pointed me in the direction of another tutor who was a specialist in the area. Throughout my studies all of the tutors have been readily available to help with assignments and queries and have been thoroughly supportive and encouraging.

"The main strength of this course is that it is an all-round degree that trains you in a variety of areas. This means that a wide range of occupations are available to you after you have graduated. However, it is important to note that the skills you learn are more importantly applicable to everyday life, and not just within an occupational context. Analytical skills and independence are hugely important to everyday situations and attitudes.

"The most overwhelming skill I have learned thus far is to always be inquisitive and to intellectually interrogate sources of information. Other skills I have learned are how to work independently and how to communicate my ideas most effectively.  It is really rewarding to complete work to the high standards expected by my tutors and on time! Nothing beats the buzz of getting a good grade for a piece of work that you have engaged with and worked hard on (geeky, I know!)

"Quite simply, if you would like to study a topic that is invigorating, challenging and will develop your mind and outlook then History at NTU is definitely the order of the day for you."
