More about Nicola

"I was brought up in Nottingham and I love the city, but I visited the University before I applied because I wanted to see the campus. Talking to the lecturers and other students at the open day played a key part in my decision to put NTU as my first choice. Also, sport plays a huge part in my life – I train with the British Tae Kwon Do squad – and it was agreed that if I got the opportunity to compete at national level, the University would give me the freedom to do so, while helping me to make sure I didn't fall behind in my studies.

"History was the key subject I wanted to apply for, but I am the type of person who questions what goes on around me and why people think the way they do, and Philosophy has given me an insight into ideas and how influential some of these can be in society.

"One of the best things on the course for me is the way the lectures are less formal than that of other subjects - there is more space for discussion and debates. The lecturers are also happy to help if you are confused by anything, and will direct you in the right way if you desire to do extra reading."
