Through my placement year, I feel I now have a wealth of both knowledge and practice that I can apply to the real world.
More about Callum
“I chose to study at NBS due to the exceptional facilities and resources – whether you’re attending lectures and seminars, studying or socialising, the University has great facilities to cover all of these areas. NBS also has fantastic links with companies across the region, big and small. Not only does this promote the employability prospects for students at NBS, but also provides us with the opportunity to interact and positively engage with these companies to work on practical elements of business – a huge success factor in my development.
“I decided to study the four-year sandwich course in Business as I was uncertain as to what I truly wanted to focus on. I didn’t think I was particularly numerate and thought this would be a challenging aspect of the course for me, but having completed and thoroughly enjoyed a placement year within finance I now feel extremely adept and know that this is the career I want to go into. Through my placement year, I feel I now have a wealth of both knowledge and practice that I can apply to the real world.
“The employability support at NBS is so valuable when searching for a work experience placement. I felt as though it was starting to get on top of me, but the Employability Team provided a lot of support. I used the online placement platform, InPlace, to find a job suitable for me and the team helped me to assemble a quality CV and cover letter. Two days later, I had two telephone interviews – one of which was extremely successful.
“NBS offers many events in order to stimulate your continuing professional development. As such, I was involved in the Thinkubator Challenge. As a team, we had to provide suggestions as to how, where, when and why a local SME should expand. This developed my communication and team-working skills while giving me further practical experience. Students at NBS can also attend the Business Leaders Lecture Series where leaders offer sound advice and insight into their experiences.
“Nottingham is a great city for students – there’s plenty of opportunity to engage in various social activities around the city, but the closeness of the student community is also great.
“I would highly recommend undertaking a placement course as it will give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge to practice and further develop. With this in mind, given the employability support on offer at NBS, there could be nowhere better to do it than here.”
