More about Christopher
“In my third year of studying at NTU I undertook placement within the Universities marketing department.
“I made use of the Employability team before I started applying for roles. I made my CV better with advice on what to change and I brought a copy of a covering letter for proofing.
"Most of the roles I applied for were through InPlace – it was simple to use and the fact that you could apply for some roles straight from the portal was efficient.
"The recruitment process can feel long and arduous but it’s important to learn from your mistakes. Assessment centres in particular can feel daunting but after a few, they start to become a lot easier. In most cases, employers genuinely just want to get to know you as a person, they know that you won’t have loads of experience so it’s so much easier when you relax and just be yourself.
"The Employability team are great, you can go to them whenever you want. You can ask them for advice about your CV, cover letter and the processes of applying.
"The Business Management courses are designed to help gear us up for real-world work so it has defiantly helped me. As well as the theory, skills such as teamwork and communication which are important in group assignments have really helped me to slot in to the team at work.
"I would say to anyone who has the opportunity to find a placement – do it. Having real-world experience, be it for 6 months or a year, will really help you to stand out from the crowd when you graduate. As well as this, the friends you’ll make and the people you’ll meet all help to make the placement experience really worth the early mornings!”
