I loved the course and the opportunities it offered, and once I got to NTU, I loved the building!

More about Ellie

I currently manage the Human Resources operations at E.ON which is primarily the boarding on/off of employees. My team manages everything to do with getting workers into the business such as employment contracts, DBS checks etc. and then everything when staff members leave including pensions, redundancies and retirements. I am responsible for managing all of the above processes, supporting the team where necessary. I also hold the responsibility and accountability of audit activity.

I joined the E.ON HR graduate scheme and I completed five placements, including one in Berlin as a Recruiter for UK support functions. I began as an Employee Relations Advisor in the UK which was a brilliant insight into the detail of Human Resources, giving line managers advice on capability, disciplinary and grievance cases. I have completed placements in talent, learning and HR consultancy and now able to begin my CIPD, a professional qualification for HR practitioners.

I chose my degree specifically because of the in-company aspect which correlated with my university modules. I didn’t want to isolate work from uni, instead having them relate in ways improved my understanding - BABM gave a real holistic learning. I believe that working a real job which is combined with intense periods of university, really gives you a much better understanding of the theoretical concepts and the challenges the industry is faced with.

Nottingham felt very friendly during my time at NBS and I liked that it was in the city centre, and the facilities are all very close by and up to date. My course leader and NBS staff were all very friendly and supportive, you could tell that they wanted you to succeed.

For prospective students, I’d say that it is important to make sure the course you choose is really right for you. Look at what you want to achieve from being at university, what skills you want to gain and tailor your search for a course that meets your ‘must haves’.

Describe your experience at Nottingham Business School in three words: Exciting, challenging and enjoyable.
