What were your reasons for studying a master’s degree and why did you choose Nottingham Business School?

I wanted to further my knowledge of economics after studying a BA Economics here at NTU and explore a new avenue of investment banking as this is what I hope to eventually do.

The main reason was to set myself apart from other candidates. I chose NTU because I know it well, I know that the facilities are really excellent and the learning environment is very good. Having done my undergraduate course here, I really enjoy living in Nottingham so it was the ideal place for me.

When choosing a master’s degree, what did you consider it important to have?

For me it was vital to have recognised accreditation, work-based learning and a multi-cultural environment. All of these were offered to me by Nottingham Business School (NBS).

Why did you choose to study your course?

I chose to study MSc Economics and Investment Banking because I really enjoy economics and wanted to explore investment banking. I have enjoyed this year much more as theory has been applied more specifically to real world issues.

Describe what your classes are like and how they differ from your undergraduate experience?

The block teaching gives you more contact time with tutors and there is far more interaction and debate in the seminars. There are also many practical and relevant case studies covered on the course which has made this year much more interesting.

What are the key skills you have developed studying at NBS?

Critical evaluation, effective research and confidence.

Do you feel that your overall experience in the programme will make your profile more competitive in the job market?

Yes.

Would you recommend studying at Nottingham Business School to prospective students?

Absolutely.

What clubs, societies or other activities have you been involved in at Nottingham Trent University?

I have been part of the triathlon society for many years, and been social secretary for them. I like to enjoy the nightlife of Nottingham too.

How have you found moving to and living in Nottingham?

I love it, I have been here for nearly 4 years now and I couldn’t recommend it more highly. There is great nightlife, students everywhere, great pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants. It’s a nice, small city and easy to get around.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about applying for the programme?

Be prepared to work hard for extended periods of time. There’s not many breaks during the course, so when you get one, make the most of it.

What are your short term and long term career plans?

In the short term I want to get a job in London in the finance sector. In the long term, I would like to develop my career abroad but still in the finance industry. NBS has improved my skillset and slightly broadened my horizons.
