More about Kirstie
"I chose to study at NTU due to the great facilities that are available to students for learning and studying. From seminar rooms to group study rooms, I knew I had the opportunity to succeed and learn in a positive environment and atmosphere where lecturers and other students were willing to help me along the way.
"The uniqueness and fast-paced atmosphere of my course was highly attractive to me as it gave me the opportunity to participate in a year in industry whilst studying, meaning I was able to study in a unique way and develop skills in a different format. In particular, I found both the Accounting and Finance and Quantitative Methods of Business modules very useful in the process of dealing with and analysing data.
"Having the opportunity to study whilst working has been highly beneficial as I can apply knowledge and business theory to the working world which has progressed my understanding both academically and within the working environment.
"I think my placement will boost my career prospects because I have developed skills and knowledge in different areas of business. Learning business theory and knowledge is a benefit, but being able to apply it to the workplace shows I can understand and use my knowledge and skills effectively. By completing my placement and studying at the same time it shows I am highly organised and motivated and can deal with a high level of pressure, skills which can be transferred to the working world and that employers look for.
"I would definitely recommend undertaking a work placement – it gives you the opportunity to experience something new and find strength in areas you didn't think you would have. My confidence has grown massively through being put outside my comfort zone, whether this was as part of my placement or doing a presentation in front of a seminar group. Academically my knowledge has grown to all areas of business, learning skills which will be applicable for the future.
"For the future I hope to stay in Nottingham and hopefully get a job within my placement company or secure a graduate scheme."
