I believe that I have the CIPD qualification to thank for my fantastic new career path

More about Jennifer

"Before joining the Certificate in Human Resources Practice (CHRP) course. I had been a manager in several fashion retailers, including House of Fraser and Pink & Lily. Following a trip abroad and some time working as a recruitment consultant, I decided I wanted a career in HR and my next step was to get a CIPD approved qualification. I decided that the best one for me was the Certificate in Human Resources Practice. I also took the decision to return to Nottingham to study. When I first started researching the CIPD and looking at options as to where to study it, I felt a little swamped by the choices. I was recommended by a good friend to study at Nottingham Trent as she did and had a really positive experience - since then I have recommended people to do the same and have had great feedback that they are so far really enjoying the course and thankful for my recommendation.

"At the stage of applying, I was unemployed - giving me the task of convincing the CHRP course leader that I would get a job in HR before the course started. After taking a couple of unpaid internships and I was offered a job at Boots in the non-store recruitment team. Similarly to convincing the CHRP course leader, I had to reassure Boots that the studies would not impede my work. The relationships I built with colleagues at Boots actually helped when it came to completing assignments for CHRP.

"Towards the end of the CHRP course I applied for an HR Assistant role in Boots Opticians and was offered the job. I believe that I have the CIPD qualification to thank for my fantastic new career path. When I first decided to leave retail management I struggled to get a role in HR but as soon as I added the qualification to my CV and LinkedIn profile, I had more contacts. My role encompasses some CSR responsibilities and organising events, for example In February 2015 I organised a charitable fund raising event for the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer. This was a team based 'Triathlon' event at a local gym in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. It is great to know that my dedication to the course and the investment of time and money invested in studying was worthwhile. It has instilled me with confidence that I made the right decision by doing it."
