More about Selma

"A typical day is busy - my role covers all aspects of marketing from strategy and development to execution. I get an extensive amount of hands-on experience for all things marketing and PR based. Marketing is such a crucial business activity and knowing your ideas and input can really make a difference to a business is amazing. I love that you have the opportunity to be creative and that the work is so varied – no two days are the same and you constantly learn new things and new ways to make even more improvements. My career highlights have included seeing my very first press release published and printed in various newspapers, launching the firm's new web site, helping to organise the prestigious Midlands Family Business Awards, and the numerous networking events I am regularly invited to, which are always fun!

"Studying at Nottingham Business School (apart from introducing me to the job!) helped develop my knowledge of the many technical aspects of marketing, all of which I have had to utilise in my role, particularly as I head up all of the marketing for the firm.

"I chose the course because the modules really suited my career plans. I enjoyed the mix of theory and practical work we did over the course of the year – working on live projects with large international companies such as SEAT and Capital One meant that I could apply all of my knowledge to real life situations. I’d also say studying at MSc level has helped me to develop personal skills such as self-confidence, time keeping and communication all of which contribute not just in my career, but in my everyday life too.

"I also gained a year of fantastic memories, lifelong friends and a long list of places to visit for holidays! It was fantastic to meet such a varied group of people who each had experiences to share and examples to give.

"My advice to anyone thinking about a Masters is that you get out what you put in. It's not easy - it wouldn't be a Masters if it was – a lot of the time it is challenging and demanding, but putting the hard work in from the start will help you in your future and when you are starting out in your career.

"I’d also tell you to make sure you enjoy yourselves! It is such a unique opportunity to meet and spend time with people from all around the world and the year flies by so quickly, make sure you make the most of it."
