The contacts that the University have with businesses in the UK definitely helped me, without them I would have not been able to get my internship.

More about Amelia

"I had decided at the start of my AS-level studies that I wanted to do a Business degree. When I looked on the UCAS website Nottingham Trent University stood out to me because of the variety of modules the course covered and all of the extra options the University offered, including internships and community projects. I was also drawn to the new facilities the University had to offer, such as the halls of residence and the Students' Union.

"The open day provided very useful information about how the course was run and it was nice to meet staff and current students. Being able to see the facilities made me feel comfortable and with that I knew that I would be very happy studying here.

"The modules that I have particularly enjoyed and found useful are; Foundations of Managing and Organising (Year One), Marketing and Operations Management (Year One), and The Financial Environment (Year Two).

"I have just completed an Internship at Experian. I found the experience extremely useful and I am so glad that I decided to take part in the internship scheme that NTU offers. I had a marketing role and so I was able to link the marketing module I had studied in my first year to the job role. The contacts that the University have with businesses in the UK definitely helped me, without them I would not have been able to get my internship.

"Throughout my time at Experian, I completed many mini projects which involved the use of programmes I had never used before. I was working with employees who were at different levels of management and so the experience has taught me how to be professional in certain situations. As the internship was part of my university course, I had to complete three pieces of written work alongside the job. This really taught me how to prioritise my workload to ensure I got everything completed to a high standard.

"Although I knew that I wanted to undertake a business degree at university, I wasn't sure which area of business I specifically wanted to go in. The Business School at NTU stood out for me the most because of the different options they offer in Year Two. I didn't want to complete a year placement in one specific company, I wanted to undertake work experience at different companies across my three years of studying.

At NTU as I was also able to complete a four-month placement in a recognised company as well as studying at the same time. The modules that I am studying are definitely helping me to learn about how businesses are run and what they face in their day-to-day lives. The internship definitely prepared me for the world of work as I was experiencing a real life work environment.

"Nottingham is a much bigger city compared to the town I live in at home, so it was a new experience for me. There is always lots going on and it is just a fun and exciting place to live as a student. Moving to university is a big step in someone's life and it has definitely helped me to grow as a person. I have become extremely independent and believe that my confidence has also grown.

"NTU runs a fantastic Welcome Week that helps you feel settled into your halls of residence as well as onto your course. The Fresher Reps are extremely helpful and without them Welcome Week would not have worked. They made us feel extremely welcome and made sure that we knew where we were going at all times and if we needed to ask anything we were always welcome to."
