More about Joel
Recipient of the Alumni Instrumental Award
"I chose to study BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance at NTU because I was interested in the modules on offer and a placement was included in the degree. At the open day, I remember walking through the Newton building on the way to the course talk and immediately liked the feel of the University.
"The variety of modules on offer for my course was a real selling point. The modules aren't solely focussed on accounting subjects and include a broader range of business related subjects which give me a greater understanding of accounting in the role of business.
"I also really like living in Nottingham. There are loads of things to do, day and night, so you never find yourself bored. In my first year, I was quite nervous but I soon found out I wasn't the only one and I quickly made some fantastic friends.
"One of my passions is music and when I saw the musical opportunities available for me here, there were no second thoughts; NTU was where I wanted to go! I play the Euphonium, and am a member of the Concert Band and Orchestra and play in the newly formed Brass Ensemble. I also sing bass in the Main Choir. I have received instrumental scholarship for tuition on the Euphonium and was awarded the Alumni Instrumental Award. This is a fund that purchases an instrument worth £2,000, I chose a Euphonium as I didn't have one of my own and this is mine to use until I graduate.
"The best thing about NTU Music are the opportunities to perform. There are three concerts per year and lots of recitals. My playing has improved immensely and it's down to the fantastic support I've received from the Music team!"
