More about Yash
What route did you take into postgraduate study?
I completed my Bachelors in Accounting and Finance from Mumbai University. My passion for business enabled me to choose MSc Management and Innovation & Enterprise to further develop my business skill set.
When choosing a Masters degree, what did you consider it important to have?
For me it was a multicultural environment, the opportunity to work and practical learning all of which were offered by NBS.
What were your reasons for studying a Masters degree and why did you choose Nottingham Business School?
Having a business family background, I developed my interest to gain deeper knowledge of business and strategies to overcome risks.
I took initiative to obtain experience in my family business, gaining knowledge in different departments i.e. sales and marketing, administration, production and assembly.
I chose MSc Management and Innovation & Enterprise to be aware of market trends, changing business scenarios and to gain exposure to the different areas of business operations on a global level.
Why did you choose to study MSc Management and Innovation & Enterprise and what did you enjoy about it?
In today’s era, innovation is a trend needed by all businesses to achieve their visions and values.
I enjoyed the interactive seminars on the course along with the various in-class activities. The course also included an international module where we went to Greece and worked with a Greek company to provide recommendations for them to expand their business overseas.
I got invaluable experience working in a diverse team of 5 students. Interacting with students from all over the globe gave me experience which could make me see any problem from a different perspective.
Describe what your seminars are like?
The seminars are taught by experienced and friendly professors. The study aspect of a Masters student life was made easier with interactive classes, case studies and different class activities.
How has the Masters degree differed from your undergraduate experience?
The major difference was in terms of work based learning. My undergraduate studies were mainly theoretical based, whereas in my Masters there were practical based experiences putting my studies into action by dealing with real firms and case studies.
Honestly, the practical experience is something which stood out for me in my entire journey in Nottingham business school.
Do you feel that your overall experience in the programme will make your profile more competitive in the job market?
I definitely believe so. I have developed a wealth of practical experience with various market entry strategies, carrying out organisational strategies and putting together robust strategic plans.
The CMI diploma and international placement experience will set me apart in the job market. NBS has helped me secure a place in a multinational corporation which will make a huge difference in my career.
Placement Year
I am currently working as an Innovation Intern at Allied Telesis. I got an opportunity to work with the US based firm which is growing at a very high rate. My responsibilities are to study the business cases and make innovative changes which deliver growth for the firm.
The course has also familiarised me with the different strategies and the models which helps my company grow. My studies at NBS made me confident to deal with live Skype presentations which are given by me on behalf of my company.
Have you benefited from the services provided by the Employability Team?
The Employability Team provided me with my tailored CV and also helped to advise me on the work placement options available and application processes here in the UK.
How have you found moving to and living in Nottingham?
Living in Nottingham was exciting because the city provides students with great discounts. A challenging first few days turned into some of the most memorable.
It was difficult to adapt to a new place and culture; however people here are very friendly and NTU provided me with all the support needed to settle in. Working part time has also helped me to overcome the culture barrier and helped me to increase my network.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about applying for the programme?
I would advise them to arrive a few days earlier than the course start date and to explore Nottingham.
What are your short term and long-term career plans?
NBS has played vital role in my career path. My long-term career plan is to start-up my own business and my short-term goals are to develop my skills and make the best out of my placement opportunity.
Finally, your words, how would you describe your experience of studying a master’s degree at NBS?
I can proudly say I have made the best decision to study at NBS having an unforgettable experience!
