More about Elizabeth

"NTU was my ideal choice due to its great reputation, opportunities available throughout the four year course, and that it was local. The primary education course particularly appealed to me because of the amount of time that the students seemed to be on placements within schools. I was keen to choose a course that would give me the practical classroom experience to support the learning from university based sessions.

"I have found that there is a really friendly and supportive environment at NTU, which has allowed me to get fully involved in my course as well as lots of other activities within the Nottingham Institute of Education, ranging from fundraising to working as an ambassador. The academic staff are really supportive and approachable allowing good relationships to be developed with the students. This allows us to feel supported at every step throughout the four years of the course and beyond that into our future teaching careers.

"The course covers all areas of children's learning, including the background theories, the subject knowledge and the techniques for application within the classroom. There are also opportunities for further involvement such as the Take One Picture project with the National Gallery, residential trips in the UK, and the special placement opportunity in Year Three, where students get the chance to travel the world and experience education in different contexts. There are specialist classrooms where hands on sessions are taught such as Art, DT and Science. ICT rooms are also available across the campus for teaching and private study.

"This course has allowed me to develop my skills as a teacher as well as giving me opportunities to work alongside others to develop my team work and people management skills. This will be valuable to me in the future particularly in roles of responsibility within schools. On completion of my course, my target is to get a job as a teacher within the Nottinghamshire area and eventually complete a Masters degree in Education. My ultimate aim would be to take up a management role within a school. This course is a fantastic starting point for a career in education as it allows access to a variety of opportunities while supporting individuals to develop into outstanding teachers."
