I always knew I wanted to do a four year course, because it goes into more depth and it gives you more time to get to grips with theory and practice.

More about Katie

"I was particularly interested in the way the course worked. Unlike other universities, I liked the way this course was more hands on. The course gives you a wide range of experiences in the classroom which support you into gradually becoming an outstanding teacher. You're not just thrown in at the deep end.

"I often get asked why the four year course is better than a three year course. For me, I always knew I wanted to do a four year course, because it goes into more depth and it gives you more time to get to grips with the theory and practice. It also gives you more time in placement schools, which again can help deepen your understanding and gives you more of a variety of experience.

"In the primary education building, we have specialist classrooms that are laid out like classrooms and designed for science, art and design, and technology. The classrooms have all the equipment you would find in a primary classroom, from paints to metre sticks. You can also loan out the equipment in the classrooms so you can then use it on placement. This is really useful because it means you don't have to source all the equipment for a lesson yourself, the University provides some of it for you.

"Staff are always available for you to talk to, whether that be face to face or through email. I have never felt like I couldn't talk to them. You know where there offices are, and you always have their email address, so if you're worried about anything, you can always approach them and they will support you as much as they can.

"For me, I enjoy all aspects of the course. The students and staff are all really friendly and the course is really engaging and enjoyable. Even though the course is demanding on your time, I have always enjoyed my time here at Nottingham Trent University."
