More about Tara
"My course appealed to me because I could study psychology and do a childcare degree, something I wouldn't have been able to do anywhere else. There are also many different career paths available after this degree. My greatest achievement since being a student here has been becoming a course representative for Psychology.
"What I most value about studying here are that the facilities are excellent as are the lecturers. They are always around to give extra guidance and you are inspired to make the best of yourself and be successful. I would say that the greatest strength of my course is the lecturers and the different ways we are taught. Also the placement in year two will be very interesting and useful. There’s a range of topics covered on the course and in the second year, there is a health module within psychology for which we conduct our own study. There’s lots of practical equipment available to help with lessons. Within early years we look at the range of ways young children are cared for which includes the activities they perform. We are encouraged to think of activities ourselves and how to teach young children about English, maths, communication and emotions. We conduct practical lessons almost every week and always have the necessary equipment ready for use."
"The lecturers are always willing to help out any student and always respond to emails. Tutorials throughout the year are always useful as they determine whether a study could be beneficial for one-to-one time with the lecturer and clear up any queries about coursework. From this degree, especially the professional studies modules, I have learnt vital university skills such as referencing, how to make the most of my notes and how to be a skilled academic writer. On a wider scale, I have also learnt how to be a leader and acquired team building skills which will be invaluable within the work place."
"Before my degree I had always envisioned myself as a teacher but I had a love for Psychology which was a sector I wanted to pursue a career in and with this degree I have the best of both worlds. After this degree I would like to further my studies with the possibility of a Masters in a specialised area of psychology but I do not want to rule out the possibility of working with children, either in a nursery or psychology setting."
