More about Charlotte

"The course had a variety of areas to study and I valued the freedom of being able to choose specific modules right from the first year. I found the lecturers to be very approachable and supportive and my greatest achievement was gaining a first in my final-year research project.

"You spend a lot of time in the laboratories, which really helped me to reinforce the theory I'd learned in lectures. The laboratories at NTU Clifton Campus are very well equipped. You're given the chance to use specialist techniques such as NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The analytical labs in particular boast a wide range of equipment.

"I was particularly excited to have a year's placement to experience work in industry, make some money and see if it was something I wanted to do in the future. The academic staff were very supportive in helping me find a placement. This included mock interview sessions and CV writing tips.

"The course definitely requires a great deal of enthusiasm and determination. However, the rewards certainly outweigh the hard work. Also, I would highly recommend the professional practice route; it enabled me to return for the final (and toughest) year of the degree with a renewed sense of determination."
