More about Nigel

"I have always been interested in sport and the course at NTU offered a very practical environment to learn in. The university has links with local sports teams and schools so there is always an opportunity to volunteer to develop your learning and skills.

"The coaching side of the course showed that I was effective at working with children because on the course we went into primary schools and actually had the chance to deliver PE lessons.

"I am now doing a PGCE through the 'School Direct' programme. Basically I am working as a trainee teacher in a school for 4 days a week, and every Wednesday I study at University to develop the academic side of teaching.

"I developed how to be a reflective practitioner within my coaching and this is a transferable skill within my role as a teacher. Demonstrating that I could work independently at university on a research project also helped me to get on my teaching course and the assignments we did involving group work taught me crucial teamworking skills".
