More about Rachel
“When I first came to NTU for an open day I loved the campus and the facilities that my course had to offer, especially the crime scene house. The course was also accredited which made me love it even more. The campus is in a good location, and the student life is great!
“I really enjoy the laboratory sessions, especially those that are based around crime scenes and evidence recovery. They really help me to understand what I’ve been taught in lectures.
“I’ve gained a lot of experience on the course due to the lecturers. They have a wealth of experience themselves and are always willing to help and push you to do better. There are so many different aspects to the course and different modules to choose from that you learn so much.
“I’m currently on placement at East Midlands Special Operations Unit – Forensic Services (EMSOU-FS). EMSOU is responsible for Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln, Leicester and Northampton. I’m based in the fingerprint bureau where I deal with identification queries from officers. I’ve also been given a project to create a competency test for fingerprint officers. Whilst on placement I hope to get an attachment with a CSI to broaden my experience.
“I’ve had a lot of help from the Employability team at NTU. They helped me to create a CV, checked it, and gave me improvements to make. They also helped me with my application form for my placement to make sure it was as good as it could be. As well as this, I took part in the Acceler8 award where I gained interview experience and learned how to make myself more appealing to employers.
“I’m so happy that I came to NTU to study Forensic Biology. It’s the best decision I ever made!”
