More about Savina

Nottingham Trent University was my first choice as the Engineering in Cybernetics and Communications degree was more practical oriented compared to other computing courses I looked at.

During my studies, the labs were fully resourced with the latest equipment available in the industry and the teaching facilities were good enough for my degree as most computing students tend to work on their own laptops mostly. However, there were plenty of computer facilities always available for any students who wanted to work on the campus.

I found the lecturers were totally supportive towards us students, I even remember an incident which I will never forget in my life. I went to see my professor when I couldn't understand the subject and tools used for the Applied Industrial Process Control module, I was completely in tears. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to complete my studies or degree because I was one of the mature students in the class and hadn't had industry experience since I finished my bachelors degree 10 years before. With my lecturer's support and guidance, I was one of the top scorers for the module in that year!

My Masters degree helped me develop an independent and practical approach to finding technical solutions to problems. The skills I acquired through my degree directly benefited me when I was applying for Junior Software Developer roles in industry. I have been working as a Software Developer since I graduated and have recently been promoted to Database Developer. I'm lucky to be working in the software engineering sector doing something I am interested in.

I enjoyed my time at NTU. It was a wonderful experience to be a part of a conglomerate team of 34 students who were from different parts of the world. We got to know each other better when we did the Group Design Project. My favourite modules were Enterprise Leadership and Project Management, Industrial Process Control and the Group Design Project.

I would really recommend this course to any new students with a computing or electronic background. From my personal experience, having done my bachelors in computer science, I really enjoyed having a taste of new technologies in the electronic process control and simulation area. The project management and enterprise management modules helped clarify where I could see myself working and pursue the kind of career I would enjoy the most.
