More about Sowmyasree
Current role: Snakk Media, Australia - Programmatic Campaign Manager
I chose to study on the MSc Engineering (Electronics) because as an international student, besides gaining my master’s degree, I also wanted to do a work placement to gain international market exposure.
My placement was with Haymarket Media Group as a Campaign Manager for 12 months. In combination with me finding my own placement and the employability team’s help in building my CV, I landed a major role with a global company. All of my programming skills I learnt at university helped me in my day-to-day job.
As a Campaign Manager, I worked with creative tags like JavaScript, Iframe and reporting, and the analysis of data. I received continuous support from my supervisor who organised training sessions for me and helped me overcome my biggest challenge of managing my time well. I really liked having the opportunity to learn new skills and being part of a very supportive team.
My main goal in pursuing a master’s and choosing NTU was to improve my career prospects. With the help and support of my professors and the School, I achieved my goal and feel a lot more confident about my future and the opportunities coming my way.
Do you have any advice for anyone undertaking a work placement?
Always think of yourself as a continuous learner and help others by sharing your knowledge. Skills are only valued when accompanied by time management.
