Work Placement: Management Information Analyst at East Midlands Ambulance Service
"I wanted to do a placement so I was able to experience working in the field that I am studying. It would help me to understand how a relevant company would work, including the tasks that I would be carrying out using my subject knowledge.
"The work placement was advertised by the University and our Student Placement advisor was the connection between myself and the employer. I sent my cv to the adviser who then forwarded it on to the employer. The process was very straightforward as the adviser kept me up to date with the application.
"I received a lot of support from my employer when I was carrying out my tasks. Plus, I had regular meetings with my manager to talk about the progress that I was making and the next targets that I needed to aim for.
"I also had a placement tutor from NTU who would visit me during my placement year to talk to me and my manager to see how everything was going. If I had any problems, I was able to email the placement adviser for more help.
"The placement gave me much more of an idea of what sort of jobs are available to me and what I would prefer to have in the future and also the sort of job which I would not want.
"A current student taking a work placement should not be nervous and make sure they ask their colleagues about anything that they are unsure about as they will be more than happy to help. It's better to ask and be confident about your work instead of being unsure."
