More about Adrian
"I have been fortunate to have undertaken two avenues of study at NTU – both were poles apart! My undergraduate course was in art and design, however, it is the second course of study I would like to focus on. In 2011 I began the MSc conversion course in psychology. I had decided to make a radical career change, but because of circumstances wanted to make the transition in the quickest time possible. The course was attractive for many reasons, but importantly is fully accredited by the British Psychological Society which is vital for future academic progression. As a mature student I was apprehensive, especially having no formal background in psychology. However, the course structure takes this into account and my fellow course colleagues came from a variety of backgrounds and were of different ages.
"The various modules are challenging as you would expect for postgraduate study, but the tutor support is fantastic. The various module tutors are accessible and during my experience I always felt I had someone to turn to for advice and guidance. Of course, independent investigation is necessary but I was never left floundering.
"Next month I begin my Doctorate in Applied Child / Educational Psychology. Put simply, I would not be in this position if I had not gone through my NTU experience. The MSc in Psychology gives you so much more than just the 'points' needed. The course lays a solid, all-round foundation of psychological knowledge. In short, it prepares you professionally for a career in psychology. The other strength is that with this sound foundation you can make a choice to pursue a variety of psychological disciplines.
"At the time of my study I was juggling two jobs and a young family – so it can be challenging! However, my main advice to anyone contemplating this course, irrespective of age or background is that you will not be disappointed.
"The facilities at NTU are top rate and I cannot speak highly enough of all of the tutors. Their constant support (even after leaving NTU) has shaped and guided me enormously."
