More about Benjamin Alexander
"Since graduating from Trent with a 2.1 in BA (Hons) Politics, the course and the modules really stood Trent out from other universities from London."
"I completed the BA (Hons) Politics degree and then got accepted into MA Politics. All while working over the summer and working as a Student Ambassador, engaging future students to come and study Politics at NTU."
"As I studied my undergrad course here I really didn’t know if the Politics masters looked closely at British Politics, as that was what I was looking for. I knew that LSE, Oxbridge and others in London did but when I went to the Postgraduate open day, I got told about the modules on the MA Politics and knew It was one I would look at more closely."
"The modules really brought me to the course. As a Political historian the modules such as 'Political Party Development' and 'Researching Political Issues' have delved into the history and workings of Party politics in the UK but also in other countries. Also I can research and produce my own piece of research in preparation for my final dissertation."
"Obviously the financial stress that completing three years of undergrad and then going into a Postgrad takes on you is immense. I found out about the Masters Scholarship of Academic Excellence, I applied and was chosen out of many other candidates and it really helped cement my decision to come to Trent and take some stress away."
"The fact that I already knew the lecturers really helped. The relationship of knowing what the expertise is of the lecturers with helping your studies is something that has helped me. Even from the start of the year I have already been thinking about my dissertation and what my topic is going to be about and so I already know what lecturer to speak to about it in preparation."
"The library has been a godsend for completing deadlines and assessments. Now that I’m a Postgrad, there are areas in the library that only postgraduates can go to and so, when I am busy reading or writing an essay, I don’t have any loud distractions."
"I have used the library for information I didn’t even know I could use in my undergrad, There are websites available for archival footage such as BBC Parliament and Hansard which give full transcribes and so If I had used them before in my BA, they would have saved me many many hours of transcribing footage for my dissertation."
"My greatest achievement as a postgrad student would be being elected Course Rep and working on behalf of my fellow students to give feedback on course meetings with lectures and heads of departments."
"I didn’t think I would go into a career in academia but with studying for a MA I have found a rekindled love for researching and learning. Now that I can chose my own research topics and the modules are more closely aligned with what my preference is, I feel that I can be proud to submit every essay."
"My future plans? Hopefully do a PHD on research into British Parliament; and its formal and information traditions and practices."
"The Module Leaders as well as the Course Leader are very nice and knowledgeable and any difficulty being about the course or personal they always have their doors open to talk and listen and see what the best thing to do to help."
