More about Carla
“It was the feel that I got at NTU when I came to visit that made me decide to study here. I felt like I would fit in and feel comfortable and that was really important to me. NTU has not only a great reputation but also really great and vast facilities. I knew NTU had a renowned psychology department and I knew they had been climbing the ladder of university rankings. The subject matter of the course and the accreditation to the British Psychological Society was vital to me as this suited my position and my goals.
“I was awarded the School of Social Sciences Dean’s Master’s Scholarship For Academic Excellence. It’s been a huge help to my family and I. Studying later in life meant I have family responsibilities so knowing that I had some help towards my fees made it easier to fund the rest and therefore allow me to fulfil my dream of doing my Master’s degree. I don’t think I would have managed it without the financial help.
“The facilities are really great and recently been updated so the university is a smart and modern place to study. There is always access to computers or Wi-Fi and a cup of coffee is never far away. Charging your smartcard also means you don’t need to carry cash. Its great to be able to study whenever and wherever I want. The library is just brilliant – if they haven’t got it, they can get it. The computer access, study rooms and even the chill out zones come in handy. The Student Union is a fun place to be (even for someone my age) and the food is good too. The shop is handy and stocks everything I have ever nipped in for, from a sweatshirt to a sandwich.
“The Employability Support Service really does offer everything you could need, from job advice to lectures on interview techniques, they have it all. I also use the NOW portal everyday - it’s become a second homepage on my laptop. I get my lecture notes on it and I can communicate with other students and my lecturers. I can also check my progress and get my results and it has great resources on writing skills and employability links.
“If you are thinking of coming to NTU – do it. I have been so supported and if I have needed something it has been there. The tutors are really knowledgeable and share what they know in fun and creative ways. Yes it’s a big commitment, but I have found it to be so worth it. It has given me knowledge, confidence and opened up new friendships and opportunities. I looked at several universities and I had my pick but NTU simply felt right. It felt friendly but professional, it felt huge but homely, and it supports me whilst giving me independence. It took a huge life change for me to come to study at NTU and the only thing I wish I had done differently is that I wish I had done it years ago.”
