More about Laura

"Nottingham Trent University (NTU) was the last university I visited and I can definitely say I saved the best till last. What stood out for me was not only the city feel that I was looking for, but the course just 'hit the nail on the head'.

"I loved how varied the BA (Hons) Youth Studies was, and the many opportunities that the course offered. In my second year we were able to choose from a selection of modules, and for me, the Leisure and Health Modules were fantastic.

"The Leisure module introduced different concepts in a way that I had never been taught before. It has made me the practitioner I am today and I especially thank Ricky Gee; he truly is an amazing lecturer, practitioner and role model.

"In my final year, I can truthfully say I enjoyed the whole year. The 'Transition' module and the 'Working as an Adviser with Young People' module have become part of my daily working life. I love how passionate I am about my degree and I can truthfully say I have no regrets; my time at NTU has had such a positive influence on my life.

"The library became a second home to me while I was at university. The support I received there was brilliant. Nottingham Trent University's NOW system also proved to be a valuable resource throughout my degree, as it allowed me to communicate with my lecturers and fellow students.

"I appreciate how much I have grown personally and academically at NTU; Youth Studies is a social science and I realise everyday how much my degree means to me, particularly because of the role I now undertake as a support worker with young people. I love that I am now in a position where practice becomes meaningful, as I have gained the knowledge to recognise where theory is apparent.

"I never thought the experience I gained while in Nottingham would mean so much to me, because I never expected it to have such an impact on who I am today.

"My advice to students would be try hard, do not give up, enjoy and take a challenge and engage in new concepts and ideas. Only you can put in what you want to take away from your experience. Life would be boring if we found everything easy - if you work hard and show willingness you will succeed and you will get to where you want."
