NTU Progression - Year 12
NTU Progression is a free programme of opportunities designed to help students in Years 12 – 13 access and succeed at university. You might be unsure what university is actually like, or whether it's for you or how to prepare the best possible university application. NTU Progression will help you answer all these questions, and equip you with the confidence and skills you need to be a successful university student.

NTU Progression is a year-long free programme of opportunities designed to help students in Years 12– 13 access and succeed at university. It doesn’t matter if your family has no previous experience of higher education – we can provide you with the confidence, skills and knowledge throughout Year 12 and 13 to help you secure a university place and begin building your future.
What will I gain?
- A taste of what it is like to study at university
- an understanding of the university application process
- one-to-one support from a current NTU student, so you can get your questions about university answered
- support to help you improve your grades at school.
What can I expect?
To start, you will be invited along to the NTU Progression welcome event to find out what will be happening over the next year on the programme. You will meet other new members, join us for food and icebreakers.
Student shadowing
You could spend the day with a current NTU student and experience university life first-hand, have your questions answered and tour our facilities. You will attend actual lectures and seminars to help you decide if this subject is really for you, see the facilities in action and we’ll even throw in a free lunch.
Summer residential
You have the opportunity to stay in our halls of residence to live and learn like a student. It’s the best possible way for you to experience university and decide whether it is the right option for you. For four days, you’ll live in university accommodation with other NTU Progression members, complete an independent project and attend a range of social events. It could be a great opportunity to make friends for when you actually start at university.
Application support
Throughout the scheme, you will receive individual support with your university application to ensure you are on track. We will support you in your decision making regarding your next steps, and we also offer one-to-one support with your personal statement.
Social events
University is not just about work, and neither is NTU Progression. During some of your sessions we'll host a series of social events to help you make friends across the whole of Nottinghamshire.
A few added perks...
You will receive an NTU Progression membership card giving you free access to our gym and library facilities for a quiet place to study (including access to an all-new rooftop garden!).
Beyond progression
Our support does not stop here… If you chose to study at NTU, you’ll be offered support throughout your time as an undergraduate student.
