Pre-arrival activities
Purpose
You are soon going to start your MRes course, where you will dedicate a substantial part of your time to your project. You will develop a deep understanding of your topic, but, as essential as that, you will have to (learn to) communicate your research findings. And the pre-arrival activity that we have in mind for you will hopefully help you do just that.
Activity
We would like you to read the information in the ‘Scientific Communication Topic Room’ from Nature Education (Scientific Communication | Learn Science at Scitable (nature.com)). There are different sections within this Topic Room and we would like you to focus on the following ones: Communicating as a Scientist; Papers; Presentations; and Poster Presentations.
Link to induction or later course activities
This activity will be a good introduction for writing your thesis and presenting your research, which you will have to do during your course. We will guide you, but the more familiar you get with this, the better you will perform later.
Employability
Do you want to get a strong start when you arrive at NTU? Do you want a placement, work experience or a job? If the answer is yes, please complete this Employability pre-arrival learning module on NOW. The purpose of this module is to introduce you to some employability resources available to you before you commence your studies at Nottingham Trent University. If you have any questions about this module, please contact our Employability team.
