WRAP Live! public events

Our WRAP Live! events are open to everyone – students, staff and the public. When the world changes this will be a chance to get together, but for now we are streaming everything online.

Ashley Hickson-Lovence

In our most recent WRAP Live! event, Term Two Featured Writer Ashley Hickson-Lovence joined us for a live-streamed conversation with poet, academic and Nottingham Creative Writing Hub member Dr Becky Cullen.

Ashley discussed his current work-in-progress, a novel about the Premier League's first black referee Uriah Rennie. Becky asked about the stops on Ashley’s own writing route, black football players and referees, and what happens when you take up your position in the writing arena.

With performances from Nottingham and WRAP writers and a reading from Ashley, this event was co-hosted with Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature and Nottingham Creative Writing Hub.

Our very first WRAP Live! event took place in December 2020 and featured award-winning novelist, poet and former Mostly Lit podcast host, Derek Owusu. He joined Becky Cullen – poet, researcher and WRAP Programme Manager – for a lively virtual dialogue about writers and writing, passions and poems, living, and loving, D.H Lawrence.

The event also featured performances from Nottingham poet Ioney Smallhorne and WRAP ambassador and participant Justyna Cuglewska.
