Your Global Lounges
The Global Lounges are open to all NTU and NTIC students and colleagues. These dedicated on-campus spaces in City and Clifton offer flexible opportunities to enhance your CV with international experience and expand your horizons.
In the Global Lounges you can:
- relax and make friends from around the world whilst enjoying free tea and coffee
- celebrate, organise and take part in student-focused cultural events
- enhance employability through international opportunities.

Locations and opening times
Global Lounge - City Campus
The City Global Lounge is located in 23 Goldsmith Street.
Please note that the City Global Lounge will be closed from Monday 8–Friday 26 June for refurbishment. We will reopen on Monday 29 June with out of term opening hours.
- Term time opening hours:
- Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm
- Extended opening hours on Tuesdays for Language Café, 5–7 pm
- Out of term opening hours: Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm
- Closures: City Global Lounge is closed on Bank Holidays and University Closure Days (Tuesday 26 May 2026)
Global Lounge - Clifton Campus
The Clifton Global Lounge is located in the glass building opposite Pavilion.
- Term time opening hours: Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm
- Out of term opening hours: Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm
- Closures: Clifton Global Lounge is closed on Bank Holidays and University Closure Days (Tuesday 26 May 2026)
Learn a new language
The Global Lounges provide students with an opportunity to learn a new language through a wide range of activities such as the Language Café.
Language Café
Learn or practise a language in a friendly environment. All languages and levels are welcome, including English.
You can also volunteer with us to teach a language. More information can be found in the Working and Volunteering section at the bottom of this page.
You do not need to register, just come along to the Language Café sessions on:
- Tuesday, 5–7 pm, City Global Lounge
- Thursday, 2–4 pm at Clifton Global Lounge, 3–5 pm at City Global Lounge
University Language Programme
The University Language Programme (ULP) provides a range of language courses to all NTU students, including exchange students. You'll have the opportunity to learn a new language or improve your existing foreign language skills.
Choose from Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. There is also Business English and English as a Foreign Language. Email ulp@ntu.ac.uk if you have any questions.
Cultural Connections sessions
Learn about the world by celebrating global cultures in the Global Lounges. Join us for interactive sessions and exciting Global Week events that showcase music, dance, food, art, and language from around the world while connecting with others.
From Diwali to Africa Day, explore diverse traditions and global issues. Participation in all sessions and celebrations can earn you points toward the Global Employability Award.

Global Week is a week-long celebration of the rich cultural diversity at NTU.
It takes place in Term Two and is open to all at NTU and NTIC. You can get involved and showcase your culture through arts, performance, crafts, language taster, and food.
If you would like to get involved or have any questions about how you can participate in the next Global Week, speak to us in the Global Lounges or email ntugloballounge@ntu.ac.uk.
You can also get in touch if you want to host cultural events outside of Global Week.
Global Communication Skills Training suite
Prepare for the global workplace by joining interactive sessions with other NTU students. Explore cultural identity, learn to navigate diverse communication styles, and gain the confidence to connect across cultures.
Some of the sessions on offer include:
- Cultural Diversity
- Cross-Cultural Communication
- Equality and Respect.
These sessions offer practical insights and skills to help you collaborate effectively in multicultural settings. You can choose to attend just one or all of them. It’s completely up to you. Explore upcoming sessions on MyEmployability Hub.
Global Alumni Networking sessions
Hear from NTU graduates who’ve worked abroad, in UK-based multinational companies, or in their home countries.
Gain practical tips on global job searches, CV writing, and interview techniques. Previous sessions have featured alumni working in industries such as:
- Architecture
- Artificial Intelligence
- Human Resources
- Journalism
- Law
- Sustainability.
This one-hour session offers valuable advice to boost your international career prospect. Attendance also counts toward your Global Employability Award points. Explore upcoming sessions on MyEmployability Hub.
Global Employability Award
This is an exciting award delivered by the Employability team in collaboration with NTU Global to support students in becoming global graduates through meaningful experiences.
The award is open to all students but may appeal to those who are interested in working internationally, improve their international profile, or who want to work with people from diverse communities within the UK.

Develop your confidence, make new friends and gain skills and experience to add to your CV by joining our global community. Please email ntugloballounge@ntu.ac.uk for more information if you’re interested in working or volunteering in any of the roles below.
Global Lounge Ambassador
Paid, part-time role to work in the City or Clifton Global Lounge. These opportunities are promoted on Unitemps in spring.
Global Week Volunteer
Represent your culture or a global issue you care about during the annual Global Week celebration.
Cultural Ambassador
Organise a cultural event or an activity around a global issue you care about online or in the Global Lounges.
Language Café Volunteer
Language Café is a weekly event at Global Lounges where students from across the university come together to learn and practice languages in a relaxed and fun setting.
Volunteers for all languages are welcome. Some of the highly requested languages include English, French, German, Arabic, Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese.
Why volunteer with us?
- Great way to meet new friends.
- Support other students in their language learning journey.
- Develop lesson planning, teaching, interpersonal skills.
- Experience of working with culturally diverse groups.
- Valuable experience to enhance your CV.
Volunteers who complete 20 hours will receive a certificate. The contribution also counts toward your Global Employability Award.
Global Summer School Buddy
Welcome and support international students who are doing a Global Summer School programme at NTU. You’ll also be able to attend a course for free.
Meet new people from around the world
Games Afternoon
Challenge your friends to board games, quizzes, and enjoy some friendly competition.
- Monday, 3–5 pm, Clifton and City Global Lounges.
Crafternoon
Join us for relaxing craft sessions where creativity meets mindfulness.
- Wednesday, 2–4 pm, Clifton and City Global Lounges.
