Easing of lockdown restrictions: Monday 17 May

Published: 14/04/2021

On Tuesday 13 April, the Department for Education issued updated guidance to universities on the return to campus for those students who have not yet done so.

The guidance states that: “all remaining higher education students will be able to return to campus for in-person learning from Monday 17 May at the earliest, alongside Step Three of the roadmap for leaving lockdown.”

We are disappointed that this return to in person teaching can not happen sooner for our remaining students.

If you are yet to resume in-person teaching, then your School will email you in the next few days with further information about any changes to your course, assessments, and assignments as appropriate. Some details will require longer to work through, but your course team will keep you updated.

For those students not using your NTU owned or managed accommodation, your rent waiver will be extended until 17 May at the earliest. If you have already let us know you have not returned you do not need to do anything further.

Our campuses remain open for students who were permitted to return in January or March as well as who have exceptional circumstances. These include those students who do not have access to appropriate alternative accommodation, adequate facilities, or study space, or where you judge you need to return for your own wellbeing or health or safety reasons.

Please remember that COVID-19 Lateral Flow Tests should be taken by anyone on campus regularly to help protect our NTU and wider community.

For further information on our facilities and services that are open to you, to access our online Lateral Flow Test booking system and for details on what to do if you need to self-isolate please visit our the Your NTU: Your Experience webpages.
