Staying Safe On Campus

Published: 15/11/2021

The joint initiative between Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham Trent Students’ Union will provide a Safe Place for all students to access at night when they are feeling at risk.

Safe Place

The Safe Place is a calm and quiet area available for you and your friends to use. Accessible from the rear entrance of Boots library, the space will be open from 9pm – 9am every day and will be free to use for a variety of reasons. These include, waiting for friend or taxi, making a call, if you are being followed, to calm down if your feeling anxious and to leave a situation if you feel uncomfortable. If the Safe Place is successful, then additional spaces will be introduced in other locations including at NTU’s other campuses.

So far, we have received brilliant feedback from this scheme, just look what our students and the NTSU president had to say.

This Safe Place is a brilliant joint initiative between NTSU and NTU and one I’m proud to have worked on. The Space will provide a source of support and sanctuary for countless students and the feedback and sense of pride that students have expressed knowing this space is there for them has been heart-warming. I look forward to supporting the Safe Place as it develops and evolves to provide every student with somewhere safe in the heart of the city centre.

Conor Naughton, NTSU President

Knowing I could go and use the safe place when I felt anxious and began to have a panic attack was so reassuring. The security at the safe place made me feel really at ease and gave me the support and guidance I needed to calm down and ultimately feel safe.
