University Closure Day to honour our late Majesty The Queen

Published: 13/09/2022

As a mark of respect to our late Majesty The Queen, Monday 19 September, the day of her funeral, will be an additional University Closure Day.

Our NTU campuses will remain open to support new and returning students as they do all year round. Our enrolment hubs, catering facilities, accommodation services and student support services will be available for anyone who needs them.

Some scheduled events for students on that day may be postponed to allow our NTU community to join in this period of national mourning.

Ensuring your first week of term is a positive experience is our absolute priority. I am sure you can understand that starting on a day of such national sadness would make this impossible.

Timetables

Further detail of what this means for you – in particular for timetables and Welcome events - will be communicated to you later this week. Please bear with us as we work through the detail.

For those of you returning to NTU, your timetable will now be released via NOW at 6 pm on Tuesday 20 September. All first year undergraduate Welcome week timetables will be amended in the coming days and then reissued.

Our campus libraries will be open and our colleagues on hand to support you. Please visit their webpages for further detail on their opening times.

Moving in to your new NTU home

For those of you moving into a hall or a shared house, your plans to move will not be impacted by our closure day. Our Student Ambassadors will be on campus, clearly recognisable in their NTU T-shirts all weekend to help you with any questions you may have.

Book of condolences

If you would like a way to pay your respects to The Queen and offer your condolences to the Royal Family, you can contribute to online Books of Condolence from Nottingham City Council or the Royal Family.

There are physical Books of Condolence available at Nottingham Council House, Loxley House and Bulwell Riverside, Dales and Clifton public libraries.

Next Monday, we will be showing The Queen’s funeral in communal areas at each of our campuses should you wish to watch with your friends and peers. More details will be released later this week.

We ask all of you to be respectful of those around you over this period of national mourning, including those who may be observing a minute’s silence at 8 pm Sunday evening or watching the funeral on Monday.
