Mayoral elections, devolution and an invitation to a Q&A

Published: 12/03/2024

The residents of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire are heading to the polls on Thursday 2 May 2024 to appoint an East Midlands Mayor, as part of a devolution deal for the region.

As has been seen in other areas such as Manchester and Liverpool, devolution is the transfer of powers from Government to a local level, with a directly elected Mayor being the voice of the region.

We’ve put together a short overview of what devolution is, what it means for the East Midlands and why we’re voting for a Mayor.

Mayoral candidate Q&A

Together with Nottinghamshire Live and Notts TV, we’re also hosting a Q&A session at Confetti X on Friday 19 April 2024, with all the candidates who are standing for the position of Mayor.

You will have the opportunity to view this Q&A, either live-streamed on Nottinghamshire Live’s Facebook page or by applying to sit in the audience on the day.

Register your interest in attending the Q&A session on 19 April 2024

If you have an issue such as transport, housing, the environment and net zero or jobs that you want to put to each candidate, you can also use this form to submit a question ahead of the event.

This is your chance to have your say and quiz the candidates directly on the issues that most affect you before deciding who to vote for.
