Be part of insightful events and activities to mark Islamophobia Awareness Month

This November NTU is marking Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM), an opportunity to address the challenges faced by British Muslims and celebrate the contributions of our Muslim community.

With this year’s theme, 'seeds of change', IAM highlights the power of small actions to create big, lasting impacts.
Throughout the month, NTU is hosting a range of engaging events and activities to deconstruct stereotypes and share positive narratives about Islam. Here’s what’s coming up.
Lived experiences exhibition
Tuesday 5 – Thursday 7 November, Newton building, City Campus
Discover an impactful exhibition sharing the stories and lived experiences of Muslim students and colleagues at NTU, showcasing the strength, resilience, and contributions of our Muslim community.
Writing workshop: Calligraphy with Mia Hepburn
Wednesday 6 November, 5 pm, Knowledge Café, Boots Library, City Campus
The ancient art of calligraphy has deep connections with Islam. In this exciting free workshop, motion graphics student and calligrapher, Mia Hepburn, will lead you through calligraphy as a mindful practice. You don't need to have any experience, and it's a great opportunity to explore creative writing and meet new friends.
Deconstructing Islamophobia workshop
Thursday 7 November, 2.30–3.30 pm, Boots Library Room BTS329, City Campus
Join Dr. Irene Zempi, Associate Professor and Noor Ali, Academic Associate, for this interactive session which explores the roots of Islamophobia and offers tools to recognise and dismantle stereotypes.
Islamophobia – causes and cures workshop
Monday 11 November, 1.30–2.30 pm, Dryden Room 003, City Campus
Join Abdullah Saif, Joint Head of Community at MEND, to take a deeper dive into understanding Islamophobia. This includes an exploration of its historical and social causes and ways we can address and prevent it in our community.
Talking Circle event
Tuesday 19 November, 1–2 pm, Newton Building, City Campus
This Talking Circle event is a collaborative space to share reflections, ask questions, and gain insights about Islamophobia and its impact. All are welcome to join the conversation.
Lived experiences panel discussion
Thursday 21 November, 12–1 pm, Microsoft Teams
Join NTU colleagues and students as they share their personal experiences, insights, and perspectives on being Muslim in Britain. This panel event aims to encourage dialogue and foster greater understanding within our community.
