The Library is looking for students confident in their academic skills to offer peer guidance as Library Student Mentors.

  • Are you looking for a rewarding and flexible job that will develop your skills and confidence?
  • Do you want to earn £11.96* per hour, plus holiday pay?
  • Are you currently a first year, second year or placement student, a PhD candidate, or are you planning to do a Masters degree next year?
  • Do you feel you could inspire others to improve their academic skills, study skills or maths and stats skills?

Did you answer "yes" to these questions?  Then we want to hear from you!

Library Student Mentors offer one-to-one appointments and weekly drop-ins, whilst also getting the opportunity to participate in other initiatives to enhance student learning and promote Library services.

We need Library Student Mentors from all campuses, disciplines, and backgrounds, so that all students seeking support can find a mentor they can relate to.

You will receive full training and have the opportunity to develop your confidence and essential skills such as time management, facilitation, communication, and leadership in a job that fits around your studies.

Key application dates

  • Applications are now live!
  • Library Student Mentor information sessions are running between Monday 10 March and Friday 27 March.
  • The deadline for applications is midnight on Sunday 30 March.
  • Interviews are provisionally set for the week commencing Monday 28 April.
  • Compulsory training will provisionally take place over two days during the week commencing Monday 8 September 2025.
