Advice sessions

If you'd like to speak to us about support with your course, you can book a one-to-one advice appointment. We can help you with:

  • access statements and exam arrangements
  • timetabling support
  • accessibility
  • library support
  • advice about funding for adjustments (including equipment and specialist person support).

Access statements and exam adjustments

An access statement details any reasonable adjustment that we have recommended to support your studies. It will be shared with your academic school and the exams team at NTU.

We can create your access statement for you if you have evidence of your diagnosis or a referral for a diagnosis. Just book an advice session and email us your evidence of a diagnosis. If you have no evidence to send in, book an advice session to discuss this further.

Adjustments recommended after the published exam deadlines will be implemented for the following exam period.

Additional support

If you need additional support not covered by an access statement, we can explore this at an advice session, where you will be invited to discuss your needs with an in-depth assessment.

Support can include loaned equipment such as a laptop and assistive software, and non-medical helpers including: notetakers, BSL interpreters and mentors.

Non-medical helper support

We know your time is limited and you may need support outside of the normal working day, so we use external companies to deliver that support. Common recommendations include:

  • Specialist mentors: help with mental health and wellbeing, study and exam advice, access to funding, concentration and memory difficulties and more.
  • Specialist study skills tutors: may be recommended to students with a Specific Learning difference such as Dyslexia or ADHD, or students who have an Autistic Spectrum condition. They don't provide subject-specific guidance, but you'll get one-to-one support sessions in areas such as: writing, time management, exam technique, academic skills development, use of assistive technologies and more.
