Student Code of Behaviour

Read the NTU Student Code of Behaviour.

We're committed to making NTU an enjoyable and safe place for all students.

We're very clear on how we expect our students to conduct themselves. You must be responsible and respectful to other people. That includes other students, NTU staff, visitors, and the local community alike.

The Student Code of Behaviour outlines the expected standards of behaviour for NTU students, along with the procedures followed in cases of alleged misconduct.

We expect a high standard of behaviour whether you are on campus or not. As a member of the NTU community, you must be aware of the impact of your interactions with others. Discriminatory and negative behaviour is not tolerated and may also be unlawful. Please visit our respect and dignity page for advice.

We're serious about breaches of the code. There are penalties for proven transgressions, including suspension or permanent expulsion from NTU. Read the quick behaviour and standards guide. It gives examples of behaviours that breach the code, and of the penalties for doing so.

Reports related to sexual misconduct, bullying, harassment, discrimination and hate should be made via Report + Support, either with contact details or anonymously. If you would like us to investigate your report, you must provide your contact details in the form.

Other forms of behaviour that pose a risk to the security, health or wellbeing of others, can be reported through our Student Code of Behaviour report form.

If you have experienced or observed one of the below student behaviours, you can report it anonymously or leave contact details:

• sexual misconduct and assault
• bullying and harassment
• a hate incident or discrimination

If you make a report with contact details, you can choose to receive support from an NTU advisor, to have your report investigated, or both. Depending on the course of action you wish to take, an advisor will be in touch to offer support, guidance and agree next steps.

You can contact the NTSU Information and Advice Service, who provide free independent advice. You can also view our support articles on Report + Support, for advice and guidance.

Where a crime has been committed, we'll always encourage you to report it to the police as they have capabilities and resources to investigate. Our own procedures can only cover breaches of the Student Code of Behaviour.

• Possession or use of offensive weapons
• Possession or dealing of illegal substances
• Noise or nuisance behaviour
• Theft
• Damage to property.

Seeking support

We encourage all students to engage with support. You can:

• find out what support is available from Student Services
• speak with a support adviser
• get support from the NTSU advice centre.

You can also access our peer support scheme. We offer peer support to students who've faced discrimination while studying at NTU. This must have been due to one or more of their protected characteristics.

Our peer supporters will offer support, encouragement and hope to these students. They will also signpost them to:

• other support services at NTU and in the community
• NTU’s Student Code of Behaviour, and / or
• NTU’s Student Complaints Procedure.

• visiting the Information and Advice Service (IAS) offices on any campus in person.

Our peer supporters are there to provide support. They do not act on the student's behalf. NTU will not share information with the supporter. The student is still expected to engage with the process themselves.
