Teacher training courses

Our teaching courses give you the skills you need to take your subject into the classroom. It doesn't matter whether you've studied English, sport, psychology, or any other subject. We have a degree to get you ready to step in front of the class.

You may choose to teach at early years, primary, secondary or further education levels. All our PGCE courses lead to professional qualifications. You can choose from any of the following courses:

  • PGCE Primary Education
  • PGCE Primary School Apprenticeship
  • PGCE Early Years Initial Teacher Training
  • PGCE Secondary Education (with subject specialisms)
  • PGCE Secondary School Apprenticeship
  • Post-Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) Full-time / Part-time
  • MA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

Applying for a PGCE

For postgraduate courses leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), you can apply through the Department for Education.

For PGCE Early Years Initial Teacher Training, Post-Compulsory Education and Training and Assessment Only courses, you can apply directly to NTU.

Funding information

There's funding available to train as a school teacher and also generous bursaries, as well as the usual loans and scholarships. More information is available on the Department for Education's website.
