Yes, you can also apply for scholarships and other awards offered by the University. However, if you are successful and the scholarship or other award covers 50% or more of your tuition fees, you will not be eligible for the Alumni discount.

If the scholarship or other award covers less than 50% of your tuition fees, and you are eligible for the Alumni discount, the discount will be applied to your tuition fee after the scholarship amount has been deducted.

If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU within the last 6 years, have met your conditions, and accepted the offer, the discount will automatically be applied prior to enrolment. The discount may be applied at any point up until the time you have fully enrolled.

If you graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU before the 2019/20 academic year, or have previously received the NTU Alumni discount and are progressing onto a second eligible postgraduate taught course, have met your conditions, and accepted the offer, please send a copy of your graduation certificate and NTU ID number to ntu.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk, with the subject title  'Alumni discount' before you enrol on your new course.

*Qualifying academic awards include: All BA, BEng, BSc, LLB, BArch, PGDip, MA and MSc. NTU reserves the right to ask for a copy of your degree certificate(s) to validate eligibility.

Yes, you can use the discount on a research degree (excluding the 4th year/writing-up fee) starting in the 2026/27 academic year, if you have graduated with a qualifying academic award* from NTU. The Alumni discount cannot be used on at-distance PhDs.

If the funding from your employer or professional body (excluding Student Finance England) covers 50% or more of your tuition fees, you are not eligible for the NTU Alumni discount.

If the funding covers less than 50% of your tuition fees, and you are eligible for the Alumni discount, the discount will be applied to your tuition fee after the funded amount has been deducted.

The Alumni discount will be applied once you accept and meet the conditions of your offer and are eligible to enrol on the course. This can happen at any point up until the time you have fully enrolled onto your course.

The NTU Alumni discount is not transferable and may not be awarded if you choose to defer your entry to a different start date in a different academic year, or if you choose to transfer to a different course at NTU that is excluded from the discount.

Please contact us directly at ntu.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk, providing your name and NTU ID number.

Read the Alumni discount terms and conditions

If you're considering applying to NTU for postgraduate study and expect to receive the Alumni discount, make sure to read the full terms and conditions below.

    1. Eligibility for Recent Graduates
Applicants who graduated from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) with a qualifying academic award* within the last six years do not need to apply for the Alumni discount or provide a degree certificate. If eligible, the discount will be automatically applied prior to becoming fully enrolled on the course.

    2. Eligibility for Graduates prior to 2019/20
Applicants who completed their NTU award before the 2019/20 academic year must provide a copy of their graduation certificate once they have met all offer conditions and accepted their current offer. Certificates must be emailed to ntu.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk with “Alumni discount” and the applicant’s NTU ID number in the subject line before you enrol on your new course.

    3. Applicants With Multiple NTU ID Numbers
Applicants who believe they are eligible but have been issued multiple NTU ID numbers must contact the Scholarships Team at ntu.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk, providing their full name and all relevant ID numbers.

    4. Combined  Scholarships, Bursaries and discounts
Where an applicant holds both a scholarship or bursary and the Alumni discount, the scholarship or bursary is applied first, then the discount is applied to the remaining amount. The total combined value of all awards cannot exceed 50% of the course tuition fee. Applicants whose scholarship or bursary already covers 50% or more of their fees are not eligible for the Alumni discount.

    5. When the Alumni Discount Is Applied
The discount will only be applied once an applicant has accepted their offer, met all offer conditions, and is eligible to enrol on their course.

    6. Eligible Courses
The Alumni discount is available only to students progressing from a qualifying NTU award* onto an eligible postgraduate taught, postgraduate research, or professional course** in the 2026/27 academic year. For two‑year full‑time Masters programmes with a year‑long work placement, the discount applies to Year One fees only.  For PhD  programmes the 4th year/writing-up fee is excluded from the discount.

    7. Deferrals, Transfers, and Modular Courses
The discount is not transferable and may not be awarded if an applicant defers to a different academic year or transfers to a non‑eligible course. For modular programmes, applicants must have completed their qualifying NTU award* before starting their first module. Where eligible, the discount applies to the full course fee, not per module.

    8. Circumstances Where Applicants Are Not Eligible
Applicants are not eligible for the discount if progressing to or from a course validated by NTU but not taught by NTU, if their tuition fees are fully sponsored by an employer or professional body, or if they are international exchange students. Students repeating the first year of a course, or enrolling outside the period 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027, are also not eligible.

    9. Part‑Sponsored Students
Applicants whose fees are partly sponsored may receive the discount only on the portion of tuition fees they personally pay.

    10. Receiving the Discount More Than Once
The discount may be received a maximum of twice. Students may only receive the Alumni discount more than once if they successfully completed their previous eligible NTU course. Those who withdraw or do not complete a course under any circumstances after the discount is applied, will not be eligible for the discount again for either a retake or a new course.

    11. Withdrawal and Leave of Absence
If a student withdraws before enrolment, before payment, or where fees have been fully refunded, the discount may still be available for future study if eligibility criteria are met. Students taking an approved temporary leave of absence will retain the discount on return, provided they do not repeat any part or year of their course. Where a student withdraws with outstanding tuition fee debt, NTU may withdraw the discount at its discretion.

    12. Part‑Time Study
For part‑time students, the Alumni discount will be applied proportionally across each year of study.

    13. Final Decision
All decisions made by Nottingham Trent University regarding the Alumni discount are final.

    14. Eligible NTU Awards*
Eligible academic awards completed in full at NTU include: BA, BEng, BSc, LLB, BArch, PGDip, MA, MSc.

**Please view the list of excluded courses in the FAQs above.

***NTU reserves the right to ask for a copy of your degree certificate(s) to validate eligibility.
