NTU joins the University Mental Health Charter Programme

Published: 27/07/2021

NTU has become one of the first members to join the University Mental Health Charter Programme run by Student Minds, the UK’s student mental health charity.

We are excited to be one of the first members of the University Mental Health Charter Programme

The Charter Programme has been developed to demonstrate the commitment by universities to make mental health and wellbeing a university-wide priority, sharing practice and creating cultural change.

Joining the Charter Programme shows NTU is working towards a set of evidence-informed principles of good practice. This includes a commitment to working with colleagues and students to provide well-resourced and effective, evidence-based support services, as well as creating an environment and culture that can support poor mental health and promote good mental health for the whole university community.

Steve Denton, Chief Operating Officer and Registrar comments on NTU’s membership:

The mental health and wellbeing of our colleagues and our students is a priority and integral to our strategy. Joining the University Mental Health Charter programme is a sign of our continued commitment to ensuring we can provide the best possible wellbeing support and services across the university community.

Steve Denton, Chief Operating Officer and Registrar

NTU will now form part of a UK-wide practice sharing network with access to events and opportunities to come together to continuously improve their approach to student and staff mental health, committing to an accreditation scheme which challenges and recognises universities that demonstrate excellent practice.
