Take part in the SOS Student Switch Off campaign

Living in Halls? The Switch Off campaign offers you a great chance to take personal action against climate change.

Easy tips to help you save energy this winter

Even if your bills are included in your fee, you can still take steps to reduce your overall energy consumption and make sustainable choices. SOS-UK (a branch organisation of NUS) looks at the energy use and student engagement to determine which hall is the most sustainable. Students living in that hall will win a prize at the end of the year.

As part of the Student Switch Off at NTU, you can make a big impact

  • you can take personal action on the climate and ecological crisis through taking and sharing simple actions
  • SOS-UK train student volunteers to be ambassadors (something to add to your CV!)
  • SOS-UK provide learning opportunities through webinars and workshops, e.g. climate justice and sustainability careers
  • SOS-UK run competitions and online activities such as national quizzes with additional prizes.
To compete for your hall simply sign up here

Plus you can find a range of activities and quizzes anyone at NTU can take part in throughout the year.

  • wash your laundry at a lower temperature
  • keep your showers short
  • understand how your thermostat works so that the heating’s only on when you actually need it
  • get a smart meter to keep tabs on your charges and accurately track what you’re using.
