The rich cultural diversity of NTU was on display during the University’s 11th annual Global Week celebration.

Global Week

Global Week celebrates the wide array of cultures at the University, which is home to approximately 6000 international students from over 100 different countries.

The event – which was held from 27 February to 3 March – saw a range of events and activities take place across the University at the City, Clifton and Brackenhurst campuses.

Throughout the week, each of these campuses hosted a vibrant cultural fair with 120 stalls focusing on culture, NTU services, and global issues. Cultures from across the globe were represented at 78 student-led stalls featuring traditional foods, art, dance performances, music and workshops. Among the cultures represented across the week were Bangladeshi, Chinese, Australian, Ukrainian, Filipino, Congolese, Edo and Yoruba, Egyptian, French, Indian regional cultures, Japanese, Malawian, Omani, Pakistani, and Peruvian...and that’s just to name a few!

Global Week also highlights serious global issues such as sustainability. In 2020, we decided to forgo plastic giveaways and donate £1 for each student who attended Global Week to a local sustainability project. From 2020 – 2022, we have contributed funding for campus beehives, e-bikes, and the care of the peregrine falcons. This year we are donating towards the Dryden herb garden that will be open to staff and students.

As part of the Connecting Globally theme of our current University strategy, we aim to create a vibrant multinational community that is inclusive, values diversity, and nurtures global citizenship. Through Global Week we celebrate the different cultural heritages of our students and staff as integral to the life of the University, and provide opportunities for students to extend their international outlook and understanding of global issues. This event contributes to a truly global experience for all of our students!
