AIESEC offers schemes facilitated by student members. This helps produce the best exchanges possible across the world. It connects students to:

  • 6 to 8-week volunteering projects
  • paid international teaching placements, running from 3 to 18 months, for final year students and recent graduates
  • paid international internship experiences lasting from 3 to 18 months.

There is a programme fee of £450 if successfully placed.

CRCC Asia international internship programme in either China, Japan, Vietnam or South Korea

CRCC Asia has launched a range of funded scholarships. These support students from underrepresented groups. The scholarships offer valuable work experience in the following exciting locations:  

  • China
  • Japan
  • Vietnam
  • South Korea.

The CRCC Asia international internship programmes last one month.

The scholarship campaign will provide five funded places. It opens for student applications in October 2019. Those wishing to apply should apply directly to CRCC Asia via an online application form.

Millennium Fellowship

The United Nations Academic Impact and MCN proudly present the Millennium Fellowship. It's a semester-long leadership development program on your campus. It's intended to take your social impact to the next level. Access to world-class training, connections and recognition is just an application away.

​Applications for the Class of 2021 are open to undergraduate students around the world. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Early applications are strongly encouraged.

The general application deadline is March 31. The final deadline is April 16.

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) UK

IAESTE is managed by the British Council. It offers a range of paid traineeships in over 86 countries. This cutting-edge work experience is available to undergraduate students in:

  • science
  • engineering
  • technology
  • applied arts.

The traineeships run from 6 to 12 weeks during the summer and up to a maximum of one year. A fee of £200 is payable once you match. You'll earn a salary while on placement. This will cover accommodation and living costs.

The application deadline for next summer is the end of November, so apply now.

Grants are available to help cover travel expenses. You're eligible if:

  • you're studying abroad as part of your course, for at least half of each academic term
  • your permanent address is in England.

Santander Universities Scholarships

Join the Santander Scholarships website and look for scholarship opportunities worldwide. It only takes a couple of minutes and you can sign up for alerts when new opportunities arise. Look for scholarship opportunities that say ‘any university’.

Japan

Summer Internship Program

Offered by the University of Tokyo, this is a seven-week summer programme. It gives undergraduate students hands-on research internship opportunities in the fields of:

  • natural sciences
  • IT
  • international studies.

There are two programmes:

  • Program A runs from the beginning of June to mid July.
  • Program B runs from the end of June to the beginning of August.

Participants will be awarded:

  • a scholarship that covers accommodation and living expenses, and
  • a partial subsidy for air fares.

Vulcanus

Vulcanus is a training programme for EU engineering or science students.  It offers 12-month industrial placements from September to August. Students must enrol in at least Year Four of study.

The programme includes:

  • a one-week seminar
  • a four-month Japanese language course
  • an eight-month traineeship in a Japanese company.

A grant of 1,900,000 YEN is available to cover accommodation, return travel to Japan, and living expenses. Applications open in November.

Japan Exchange & Teaching Programme (JET)

JET is an opportunity for recent graduates. You'll work as an assistant English language teacher in schools across Japan. This is a one-year contract which starts in July or August.

Your annual salary will cover your:

  • rent
  • pension contributions
  • insurance.

Air travel and visa costs are paid on the presumption that you will fulfil the terms of your contract.

No prior knowledge of teaching or Japanese is required.

Daiwa Scholarship

A unique 19-month programme of language study, work placement, and homestay in Japan. It follows a month of Japanese language tuition in the UK.

This scholarship will cover your:

  • tuition
  • accommodation
  • living costs
    economy-class travel to and from Japan.

To apply you must be:

  • a British citizen
  • aged between 21 and 35
  • a graduate, or due to graduate a time of departure.

The application deadline is 3 December.

USA and Canada

BUTEX UK Scholarships

The BUTEX UK Scholarships are available to students studying abroad. You must be abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year. Scholarship awards are £500. They're paid to successful students on arrival and registration at their host university. These scholarships are open to undergraduate students who have been:

  • offered a study abroad or exchange place that is not eligible for an ERASMUS grant.

The application deadline is usually in October each year.

Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU)

The CGIU looks for students motivated to make positive change in the areas of:

  • education
  • environment
  • climate change
  • peace
  • human rights
  • poverty alleviation
  • public health.

Students accepted into CGIU will participate in a year-round programme that includes:

  • access to high-touch mentorship
  • a social impact curriculum
  • funding streams
  • student engagement events.

Student engagement events include the 2021 virtual annual meeting hosted by Howard University.

You may only submit one Commitment to Action. Applications will be reviewed by the CGIU Selection Committee. Your Commitment to Action should demonstrate:

  • the motivation to tackle specific challenges
  • the capacity to develop leadership skills
  • a dedication to CGIU’s year-long programme.

The application deadline to apply is Friday 15 January at 11.59 pm ET (Eastern Time).

Frank Knox Fellowships

Up to six fellowships are available for graduate students from the UK. Each of them is worth at least $32,000, plus tuition and health service fees, per annum.

You'll study for up to two consecutive years in one of the Faculties of Harvard. The competition is open to British citizens. You must be normally resident in the UK at the time of application.

Fullbright Summer Institute

These five-week academic summer programmes are for undergraduate students. You'll improve your understanding of the USA and develop leadership skills.

Programmes consist of a balanced series of:

  • seminar discussions
  • readings
  • group presentations
  • lectures.

The programme also includes:

  • educational travel
  • volunteering
  • site visits.

The award will cover all participant costs. To apply, you must be a UK citizen and have at least one year of study remaining after the institute finishes. Applications open in November.

Kennedy Scholarships 2021-22

This funding allows British graduates to undertake postgraduate study in the US. You will study at either Harvard or Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The award offers:

  • full tuition fees and health insurance
  • a means-tested tax-free stipend of $27,250
  • a generous contribution towards flights
  • an extra vacation travel grant of $2,500
  • the opportunity to be part of a scholarship programme valued by the Kennedy family.

These scholarships are open to British citizens only. The application deadline is 21 October 2020.

Thouron Award / Penn State Scholarship

This is an opportunity for graduates. You'll study at one of the  University of Pennsylvania's 12 graduate schools for up to two years.

The Thouron Award pays:

  • full tuition
  • fees
  • insurance
  • an annual stipend to cover living costs.

This is a very competitive scholarship. It opens in August each and year and closes on 1 November.

British Council English Language Assistants 2021/22

Now's the perfect time to make plans for your year ahead. The global English Language Assistants programme is now in its 115th year. It offers paid placements for UK students and graduates to teach English. There are 15 destinations to choose from. See the world, develop your skills, and boost your CV. Apply by 3 February 2021.

Common Purpose

The Cultural Intelligence (CQ) course is run by Common Purpose. It's for UK students on short-term outbound mobility programmes. It's a chance to earn the CQ for Global Experiences micro-credential at no cost. Participants will develop skills and competencies key to success in the 21st century.

Pagoda Projects

Pagoda Projects is offering three scholarship places on their award-winning internship programmes in:

The SUSI Summer Institutes run for five weeks. They develop a student's curiosities into a practical learning experience. Topics include civic engagement. The SUSIs are open to all students irrespective of their current field of study.
